There’s no use of carrying things that you no longer use, and just occupy some space of your home. Think sensibly, carrying dead weight will not yield any good. You can choose to sell or donate those items to someone who really needs them.

You cannot carry hazardous materials such as solvents, corrosives and inflammable products. You can give them away to your friends or relatives. Surrender your LPG cylinder to the supplier and inform them about your move.  

If you have grown plants in your home, you can consider carrying it if the travel distance is less. But it’s advised prolonged traveling as they are very fragile and prone to expire soon.

Remove everything from the drawers, wardrobes and the desks

Anything that’s lying inside your wardrobes, drawers, and desks will be something valuable. So don’t take any chance here. Clear all the things by yourself.

Take out and arrange the dresses properly inside a carton by yourself.  It’s better to collect and keep the valuables like jewels, cash, documents, and gifts by yourself. You don’t have to worry about these during the transit.

Defrost & Clean the refrigerator

Before a day or two before you moving schedule, defrost the refrigerator and keep it clean and away from moisture. Many people overlook this thing, but it’s highly important to keep the refrigerator really dry during the transit.

If not; the moisture may condense and flow through the electrical of the fridge, and can even ruin other items nearby.

At the time of packing, be with the Packers and instruct them to pack items as segregated. Once packed, keep labeling the cartons by you simultaneously. You can name them better than the movers. It will be easy to identify the appropriate package after unloading. Also, you can mark some cartons as fragile, so that the movers will pay extra care while lifting and moving them.

The bill quoted by the moving company includes the cost of carton boxes. Actually, you can save some money from it. If you are in the positive eyes of your nearest grocery shop person, you could get the cartons at free of cost. You can ask them and get cartons in different sizes and quantity required.

They will not offer them for free always. But buying from them substantially reduces you spend in the name of packing materials.

At the time of loading the goods into the vehicle, load the essential items like basic cookware items, utensils, and others which you will need to unpack first. You should pack and carry daily use essentials such as toiletries, medicines, One or two sets of clothes, eye-glasses, covers, etc. If you have children or old people in your home, pay attention to their daily needs and do carry them in a separate bag with you.
